How to Put On a Bra Correctly
Most people put a bra on the front way: hook it, twist it, and go. The difference shows up in the fit checks. Start leaned forward so the cups gather from underneath, scoop each breast from the side and underarm into the cup, settle the band, then check the fit.
The five steps
- Fasten the band. With the straps loosened, hook it behind your back on the loosest hooks, or hook it in front and rotate the band around without twisting the cups.
- Lean forward. Bend at the waist so your breasts fall into the cups from underneath. This gathers tissue from the bottom of the breast, which the front-way method misses.
- Scoop each side. Reach into the cup and sweep tissue from under your armpit and the side of your chest into the cup, starting from the back near the wire and moving forward. Do both sides. The right scoop is not gentle; tissue that has been living outside the cup needs firm guidance back in.
- Center the gore. Stand up and check that the center panel sits flat against your sternum. Nudge the wire at the sides so it traces the root of each breast rather than pressing on tissue.
- Settle the band, then the straps. Run two fingers under the band to seat it level. Adjust straps last, only enough to remove slack; the band, not the straps, carries the support.
Why scoop and swoop matters
Breast tissue extends toward the underarm, and an unfitted bra leaves part of it outside the cup. That causes symptoms that look like fit problems but are fitting problems: side spillage, a wire resting on tissue, cups that seem too small when they are merely unfilled. Scooping moves that tissue back where the cup can support it, which also redistributes weight to the band.
Signs you did it right
- The band sits level and stays there when you raise your arms.
- The gore rests against your sternum without floating or digging.
- No tissue spills at the top, sides, or underarms, and the cups hold smoothly.
- Wires rest on the ribcage at the root of each breast, not on tissue.
- You stop thinking about the bra. That is the real test.
Re-scoop after workouts, after washing a bra, and whenever a bra that fit at breakfast feels off by evening. If scooping never fully solves the symptoms, the problem is size or shape, and the fit-adjustment table is the next stop.
The fit that starts fitted
Radical cuts each cup to its own side from measurements taken off two photos on your phone, so the scoop has less to fix and the band already matches your ribcage.
